Justin is an alumnus of the Sacramento Jazz Education Foundation and a product of one of the nation’s premier high-school jazz programs. A versatile trumpeter with deep roots in a wide range of jazz styles, he has toured internationally, performing in New York, Japan, Puerto Rico, China, and Brazil, as well as at jazz festivals across the United States.
While living in San Luis Obispo, Justin served as co-director of the official youth band of the Basin Street Regulars Jazz Society in Pismo Beach and worked as a clinician with student musicians at the Teagarden Jazz Festival and summer camp. As a passionate and dedicated music educator, he taught after-school jazz programs in the San Juan and Sacramento City Unified School Districts for four years, substitute taught music for two years, and became a fully credentialed teacher in 2019. He also spent many years as Director of Jazz Ensembles for the Sacramento Youth Band and is currently an instrumental music teacher with the Vacaville Unified School District.
Justin can be heard regularly performing with groups such as The Crescent Katz, Peter Petty, the Harley White Jr. Orchestra, Jessica Malone, The West End Stompers, Element Brass Band, Blue Street Jazz Band, Katie Knipp, and the Cunha Big Band. He is thrilled to now add the music of one of his all-time favorite genre-bending horn bands—Chicago—to the mix with Chicago the Tribute.
